Fall 2010 Newsletter from JoAnn Early Macken

November 17, 2010

Autumn is whooshing by! Before it blows away like dry leaves on a blustery wind, I’m sending you my fall newsletter—better late than never, right?

Big News!
I’m available now for virtual visits via Skype at half the daily rate of an in-person visit—and no transportation or accommodation expenses! Isn’t technology wonderful? Choose the talk that fits your audience! See my web site (www.joannmacken.com) for details.

Tip:
Do you know that I contribute to a group blog? At www.TeachingAuthors.com, you’ll find new posts twice each week from six children’s book authors who also teach writing: April Halprin Wayland, Carmela Martino, Esther Hershenhorn, Jeanne Marie Grunwell Ford, Mary Ann Rodman, and me! Watch for writing tips, exercises, book giveaways, interviews, and book reviews!

Here’s where I’ve been lately:
September 25, 2010: Harvest Fest 2010, Boerner Botanical Gardens, Greendale, Wisconsin
October 15, 2010: Sheboygan Children’s Book Festival:
Wilson Elementary School
Grant School
Author/Illustrator Reception at Mead Public Library, Sheboygan, Wisconsin
I also visited Bookworm Gardens (http://www.bookwormgardens.org/), an inspired and inspiring setting designed to feature children’s literature. Don’t miss it if you’re in the Sheboygan area!

Here’s what’s coming up:
February 3, 2011: Wisconsin Authors’ and Illustrators’ Showcase, Wisconsin State Reading Association, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
March 1, 2011: My new cumulative rhyming picture book Baby Says, “Moo!” will be published by Disney-Hyperion Books. I’m so excited! David Walker created the adorable illustrations. Take a peek at the cover on my web site!
June 13-17, 2011: Once again, I’ll be teaching "The Building Blocks of Children's Literature" at the Write by the Lake Writer's Workshop and Retreat in Madison, Wisconsin. Details on the web: http://www.dcs.wisc.edu/lsa/writing/wbtl.htm

Other events are still in the planning stages. Watch my web site (www.joannmacken.com) for more announcements.

Best wishes,
JoAnn

P.S. I’m scheduling both in-person and virtual author visits now! Mention this newsletter when you schedule an event, and I’ll send or bring you a copy of my newest rhyming picture book, Waiting Out the Storm!
