Springing Eternal
I potted impatiens to put on the porch.
They are doomed. I never take care of ‘em.
Plus everything there’s a temptation to squirrels,
and we’ve got a root-chewing pair of ‘em,
along with the spider mites weaving their webs—
destructive and messy—beware of ‘em.

I start every spring with the best of intentions.
This year’s will be different, I swear of ‘em.

The Poetry Friday Roundup is at Buffy's Blog. Enjoy!

Ha! Your poem made me smile--we have similar gardening styles! If it's eaten, it's eaten...

Love this poem. I can relate. I've actually considered putting fake flowers in the pots. I have the opposite of a green thumb.

I only do two pots each year any more and you've written the 'why'! I also leave often & have no one to water them, and then there are those squirrels! Fun poem, JoAnn!

Hahaha! Too funny and a little too familiar a scenario to me, too... but just think of the lovely environment you've provided for squirrels and spider mites... :0)

Ha! This sounds like my gardening attempts. AT least I have a husband with a green thumb and who remembers to water the plants and check for pests and all those other things that I forget when he's gone.

I'm chuckling along with everyone else. This morning I was bemoaning the fact that I haven't planted anything this spring....but thank goodness! The rains have really poured this year and I would have lost it all. So, I wait for balance in nature. When? When?
